Present Continuous: Frequently Asked Questions
When do we use the present continuous tense?
We use the present continuous for actions happening at the moment of speaking (She is reading right now) and temporary situations (I am staying with my cousin this week).
How do we form the present continuous?
Use am/is/are + verb-ing: I am working, he is working, they are working. Some verbs double the final consonant (run → running) or drop a silent -e (write → writing).
Present simple or present continuous — what is the difference?
Present simple describes permanent routines and facts; present continuous describes actions in progress now or around now: He works in a bank (permanent) vs He is working at home today (temporary).
